Caroline is a girl after my own heart; she's endearing, independent, and unique.

When her mom called to let me know they wanted to schedule her shoot, she sent along the inspiration Caroline picked out.  I'd say none of the images elicited one to think "senior portraits" and I fell in love. Like her personality, Caroline knew she wanted her senior portraits to stand out from the crowd, not in a loud way but in a subtle, artful way.

I'd have to say that her session and images are some of my favorite to date. I love how personal they are; you'll find Caroline with a photo of herself as a little girl and also wearing a pair of wings from her birthday as a toddler.  I normally stray away from excessive use of props, but I love how artful her's were. I would love to shoot more sessions just like this.

We shot the session in the back of her mom's downtown Culpeper shop, Harriet's General because of it's beautiful, neutral backdrop and amazing afternoon light.  It confirmed one of my long term goals that one day I must own a natural light studio.

I hope you enjoy these images as much as I did creating them. Congratulations on making it to senior year, Caroline.  My prayer for you is that you never let this world change you and never limit your dreams.

Caroline, her mom Kate, and sister Charly all have a special tattoo that I just adore! It's an abstract script of the siblings' initials, C, C and B. I couldn't help but ask them to take this photo together.

Long story short: Khalian is my nephew. He's God's unique way of answering my "little sibling" prayers I had growing up. Now, I can barely make my way through his photos without tears thinking about how my "K-Man" is a senior in high school.

Lucky for me, I think he still finds me cool enough to hang out with, so I got to spend some time with him in Georgia taking his senior portraits. Looking forward to sharing them all later.

Until then, enjoy this sneak peek of Khalian. Meanwhile, I'll be investing in some Kleenex.

There are a few days each year that just feel perfect. You know what I mean - the days that you find yourself stopping and thinking

"I wish everyday felt like this."

The day of Jen and Tyler's engagement session was just like that.  These two University of Virginia grads reside in Washington state, so until their photo session we had yet to meet in person. Within just a few minutes with Tyler and Jen, I knew they were the perfect couple to share such a perfect day with.

They've been together for quite some time now, and you can tell in all the best ways. Their love was easy going and comfortable. Even in the minutes between photos when my camera was down, they were romantic; I could tell they truly enjoyed every moment with each other.

Spending the afternoon together at Ash Lawn-Highland made me so excited to capture their November UVA wedding.  I mean it with most sincerity when I say that they were a joy to photograph!

James and Marie were married at Marie's Stafford, Virginia childhood home. A lovely tent reception followed their riverside ceremony.  It was one of the most beautiful days of spring this year; quite breezy, but nature made a stunning backdrop for the day. The warm sunlight dripping through tall trees, the sparkle of the river behind the ceremony and the bright green canvas of springtime were perfect accents to the details Marie and James picked for their wedding.

Without further adieu, please enjoy reliving this lovely couple's wedding day!
