Love is like the wind. You can't see it...but you sure can feel it.

James and Marie's wedding was just a bit breezy. In fact, the most wind I've seen in this area apart from a hurricane.

Maybe the wind was simply trying to match the force of love at this wedding.

More to come later!

You may recognize some of these faces from their family shoot I did about a year and a half ago. I've loved documenting this sweet family and seeing their kids grow (and my have they!)

One fun part of family photography is getting to know the kids. For their portraits I like to spend time chatting with them; it helps put them at ease in front of the camera and when they're talking about something their excited about, they usually can't help but smile.

This shoot I got to talk about K-4 and show & tell day, an underwater fish town where squids are the police (and there's even a fish McDonalds), favorite sports teams, nail polish colors and more.

This time around I also got to photograph more of the family - aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents! They were all together and I am so glad they decided to document it.

There's no better time than now; to spend with family, to celebrate your love and to document who you are. The gift of memories will be cherished for generations to come.

It's usually my job to make people laugh. To get the genuine smiles. To make sure everyone is having a great time.

Paige and Calvin took that responsibility off of my shoulders; from the very moment I picked up my camera, their infectious personalities kept us all laughing until the end.

It was such a perfect day. Full of sunshine, spring breezes, love and laughter. Paige and Calvin wanted a backdrop that contrasted their city life; something quaint and peaceful. The National Arboretum was just that. Nestled in north east Washington off of New York Avenue, the Arboretum is a pleasantly peaceful surprise inside one of our country's busiest cities.

Next we headed back to the Capitol Hill area - neighborhoods full of cobblestone sidewalks, fantastic brownstones, restaurants and of course amazing views of the Capitol buildings.

As much as I love the sights of the District, the best view that day was through my lens. Regardless of the backdrop, my favorite sight is of two people madly in love with each other.
To me, that's the best view.

A little bit country, a little bit city and a whole lotta love.

These two will steal your heart in a D.C. minute and I can't wait to share the rest.

For now, enjoy this preview of Paige and Calvin's capital engagement session!

It may be only a few grams in weight but the meaning it bears is anything but small. It represents our past, the present and our future dreams together. A bond that can't be broken. The binding of our hearts and a covenant with our creator.

Hidden in the small things...are big things.

This has past week has kept me busy in a different way that you usually see here on the blog. While I love gracing these pages with lovely couples, weddings and portraits; I often photograph work outside of those realms. Portraiture and weddings are by far my favorite but I love the challenge of doing something outside of my comfort zone too!

It has been nothing short of my joy to photograph Culpeper's finest boutiques. I love seeing how each store is a reflection of it's owner and their mission. The time and heart these owners and their employees  have put into making their store shine is evident in every corner.

Green Roost:
Green Roost is an earth friendly boutique that carries everything from home decor to paper goods to clothing, baby gifts and more. I frequent this shop a good bit as it's owner, Kelsey and I have become great friends. Not to mention the time I spend shopping here! I love the Threads for Thought t-shirts and with unabashed girly-ness...the jewelry!

Pepperberries:
If you are a woman or know a woman or want to make a woman happy, this is the place to shop. I have found the best gifts for Mother's Day and Christmas here! Pepperberries carries great brands (including Pandora jewelry and Brighton). If you have a chance to meet the owner Sharon you'll be sure to leave Pepperberries not only with a bag in hand, but a smile too!

 Harriet's General:
Made. In. America.
This is the mantra of Harriet's General. All of the items sold in the store support the good ol' US of A. From Rifle Paper Co. stationary to Collard Greens menswear, to games for kids; you can count on supporting our great country when you shop here. The newest boutique to join the block, Harriet's General is a definite must. Not to mention there are three, very large examples of my work hanging in store!

You can also find other samples of my commercial work at

Beyond my relationships with these vendors as a hired photographer, I was not or am not obligated or paid to post about their businesses. I don't and will not receive any financial reimbursement for sharing about their work here on my blog. It all comes from the goodness of my heart and my personal love for these stores!
