Engagement, wedding, maternity. All milestone moments in life when we decide to capture where and who we are in photographs. What about the moments in between? The times that really make us who we are?

There's no better time than right now to have portraits made with the person (or people) you love. Julia and Clint have been married for a little over a year now. They simply wanted to take the time to capture who and where they are in life and love with a portrait session. I couldn't have been happier to be obliged!   We planned their session on what turned out to be the perfect fall weekend - the height of autumn leaf season. It couldn't have been lovelier! We began our session in downtown Raleigh and wrapped things up at Clint's favorite local golf course. Julia and Clint were perfectly comfortable - not just in front of the camera - but also with each other.

As a wedding photographer, it is my joy to capture Day One. As a married person, I know that it's all the days after that grow and deepen your relationship. It was my joy to get to capture Julia and Clint's married love, beyond Day One.

I love Sundays. As much as I like Saturdays there's just something special about Sundays.  Sunday is the day I rest, relax and rejuvenate. I love the renewed focus that I get after an energizing and uplifting service at Lifepoint. I love the quality of the time I get to spend with those I love because Sundays are the days you can let go of whats going on at work and just enjoy. I love that Sunday is the one day that the rush, rush, rush of life feels just a little bit slower.

This past Sunday was an even greater treat as we spent it with my best friend Taylor and her
boyfriend Anthony in downtown Fredericksburg. A nice lunch at Capital Ale House, an hour or so
exploring all the offerings in the antique and vintage stores, and (less enjoyable) a few rain showers.

No rain can stop me from pulling out the camera though! We were lucky enough that the showers paused for a bit a gave us a nice window to get some great shots of the two together.

Prepare yourself for cute, cuddly, kisses, and just plain out lovey-doveyness!

{to a Sunday kind of love}

First things first - congratulations to this beautiful couple on the birth of their beautiful baby GIRL!

Bri and Brian chose not to know the gender of their baby before birth; how exciting! As evidenced in these photos - before her arrival they were anxiously awaiting and excited for the best surprise of their lives. They got their surprise just last week and let me tell you, she's a beauty.

This day earlier this summer wasn't just special because it was their maternity shoot - it was also their sixth wedding anniversary. If that doesn't spell L-O-V-E then I don't know what does! It is my hope that one day their daughter will look at these photos and see just how much joy she brought her parents before she was even born. I hope these images become her treasure and reminder that she is dearly, deeply loved by two amazing people.

{to joy; little, tiny, precious bundles of it}

A few weeks ago I posted a sneak peek of Barbara's portrait session at UVA.  Barbara was in need of head shots that captured her personality.  While I had the equipment to capture the shots, she has ALL the personality (as you will see!) I'm excited to share more shots from her session today.

While photographing, I was able to spend time getting to know Barbara more (a wonderful benefit of my job is that I spend time hearing people's stories).  She's done some really neat things in her life, including having a modeling portfolio shot by a photographer in NYC! (No pressure, right?!) If there's one thing I took away from the session, it was a deep respect of Barbara's enthusiasm and joy in life.  JOY is more than being happy; happy is based on momentary enjoyment. Joy is being content, excited about and grateful for life regardless of what it throws your way.  Barbara's got joy and I hope that like her,  I can be ever-joyful too.

Also, I'd love to experience some of the awesome things she's done...except I'd rather be the photographer instead of the model in NYC!

{to having the joy, joy, joy down in your heart}

Just a little sneak peek of my shoot with Barbara today.  We found a beautiful little spot on UVA "grounds" (NOT campus, I stand corrected!)

Barbara described herself perfectly - "genuine".   She hit the nail right on the head.  Her smile says it all.

I LOVE birthdays. Particularly my own.  I also love photographing. So, because my husband and friends are the best. . .for my birthday, they allowed me to do just what it is I love to do on the day of all days I love most specifically.

My birthday this year was so good. Despite some outside circumstances, I truly had a wonderful day. Full of love and laughs and exploring a few new places with the people I love so dearly. The best gift however, was realizing that I am surrounded with folks who care enough about me to make such a fun day happen.

-thanks, y'all-
